As co-founder in 1985 of FIE, a micro-finance institution (MFI) which has become a bank in 2010 (BancoFIE), Pilar Ramirez will speak from her own experience and explain how the microfinance sector has enhanced financial Inclusion in Bolivia. Increased access to a variety of financial services for a large part of the population has been made possible by a legal framework which has allowed traditional MFIs to upgrade into formal banks. Many MFIs have used this opportunity to expand their services, remaining close to their original customers and keeping in check the risk of "mission drift" .
