Evaluating the additionality of a Belgian Development Program
The Belgian Development Cooperation plays a catalytic role in alleviating financing constraints facing a number of entrepreneurs in partners countries. While these supports can be clearly justified, analysis of their additionality as well as their welfare impacts is crucial in order not only to adapt existing programs by avoiding practices and instruments that have little return, but also to make sure that the costs of the interventions do not outweigh their benefits. Following the demand by DGD the research team established an agreement with BTC and successfully designed a randomized evaluation on a BTC project in Benin. Subsequently, a detailed-baseline survey was implemented with digital means in collaboration with BTC-Benin and involving 975 agricultural entrepreneurs located in the South and North Benin.
