Private Resources

The Work Package is subdivided in two sub-packages:

  • PR1 will map current donor policies, instruments and experiences with private-sector financing of development, make an analysis of the way different Belgian development actors are engaging with the private sector (or could do so) and will develop a number of in-depth case studies of particular private-sector financing instruments and/or partner country experiences with such instruments.
  • PR2 will investigate two aspects of the crucial issue of financing local micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). A first aspect specifically deals with improving access of SMEs, possibly also micro-entreprises, to private external financing. The second issue is how a more efficient interaction between formal and informal financial institutions, which still play a major role in many LICs, could contribute to improving access to external funds for micro- and small enterprises.
